Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978.  His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity.  In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes.  He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings.  In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.

He recorded many of the major 70's bands:  Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts.

Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated.  Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes.  No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers.  Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.

Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community.  Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.

Not great quality...the "Could You Educate Me" re-processing of this show that someone did may sound better to many. I have agreed
to do raw transfers for the person who has provided me with these tapes and also I am offering them online in the hope others might do the same or offer some more unusual Bowie. I will be doing re-processing of my own on some of these shows, but only where I find the work makes enough of a difference to make it worth my time doing so, or where I feel my re-processing is a valid alternative to what someone else has already done (ie where I have actually heard someone else's re-processing of the same show, of course! :)).

So this is a raw transfer for those who prefer to hear original Bowie recordings that way or have the time and knowledge to do a good re-working of their own if they so choose.

Recording notes:
I originally listed this show as a soundboard recording. I'm not sure though. Could be a audience recording. But the crowd noise is so distant that it leads me to believe that it is a very high
generation soundboard. Sounds almost like it's from a video source but I don't ever remember
a video for this show circulating. The very beginning has some sort of distortion but it clears up
just before 11 O'Clock begins. There was a dropout during 11 O'Clock at the 4:04 mark which I edited out. Only dead air was cut out.
No other processing done whatsoever.

NOTES:
Rush - Niagara Falls, NY 1978-05-10 (History of Buffalo Concert Series)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

53rd in this ongoing series archiving the concerts of Buffalo, NY over the last 40 years. Not the greatest sounding thing, but not too bad. This came from a CD-R trade some years back, and I highly suspect an mp3 source, but I can't be certain. Just thought it was my duty to mention it. I've looked for a certain to be lossless source for it, and I've seen torrents, but they're all dead. They could just be this source anyway. Anyway, not a bad sounding show. Not great, not terrible like the 1980 one. Expand files list for tracklisting. More to come. Enjoy!

As with nearly everything I post, do not sell, but feel welcome to convert anything I post to any format you like, lossy or otherwise, and feel free to share/trade it that way. Spread the music as much as possible, in any format possible. Music should be free and for everyone to enjoy as they see fit. If a person is completely satisfied with an Mp3, then they should be allowed to get it that way. All music should exist in all available formats, be it lossless, lossy, phone files or whatever. The more formats the more people will be exposed to the variety of music out there, and that's a good thing no matter how you slice it. Just make sure everyone knows what they're getting.

Notes: Excellent (A) sounding audience recording.  Not much crowd noise. All instruments and vocals are clear.  No  digital glitches noted.  Total running time is 177 minutes and this would not fit on 2 discs.   Therefore I left the Psychoderelict material together on disc 2.  I am not familiar with the Psychoderelict material and I hope my tracking was correct.

iZotope RX2 denoiser tool used to remove hiss.
Width of a Circle massively louder than rest of side two.  Recorded at lower level and grafted back in at 7:24 (before editing).
Volume boost to the intro and start of Hang On To Yourself to bring it in line.
Little bit of hiss around start of Waiting For The Man - impossible to remove.
Tape flip between This Boy and Width Of A Circle - removed cleanly.
Lot of volume fluctuations on side two.  Tidied up.
Gap removed between Waiting For The Man and White Light/White Heat, but abrupt start to latter
Fade out/in between White Light/White Heat and Suffragette City on source tape.
Some small clicks were evident in Width of a Circle, Waiting For The Man and White Light/White Heat.  Removed using Goldwave Pop/Click tool on default setting.

A phenominal audience recording for the period; from the second night of the famous "Rainbow" shows, rumoured to have been recorded by a mate of Woody Woodmansey.
This was recently sent to me on CDR by Bofinken who asked if I could clean it up a bit and torrent it. To be perfectly honest it was so good I had very little to do. I cleaned off a tiny bit of hiss, removed a few crackles and pops then balanced the volume between tracks and channels. There is a cut in "Width of a Circle", the discs had the missing section badly replaced by a section from the officially released "Ziggy Stardust - The Motion Picture", this I obviously removed.

In my opinion this is as good if not better than the famous Maloney Boston recording and must rank as one of the best Ziggy audience recordings. Part of this show has been booted as "Rainbow Theatre" and complete as "Rainbow - The Magic Theatre", It is certainly an upgrade on both of these. The recording was also remasterd and torrented a few years back as "Up yours Reg" by Downunder2 (Steve), I haven't heard this but I'd be suprised if this is any worse.

The running time is annoyingly just over that of a standard disc, how you wish to split it is up to you, the artwork suggest after "My death",  I actually burnt it complete on a 90 min CDR (Be warned: 90 min discs will play on most PC's but not on most home stereos)

A big thankyou to Bofinken for the discs and Steve for the additional background info.
If you have this show already, I'd love to know how it compares. If not, I know your going to enjoy this.

Note: This is an excellent sounding audience recording, considering the technology available at this time. Sound quality and clarity are both very good. My copy came from Jeff Parkin. He told me that this is the raw D5 transfer to DAT. It's a very solid recording and the best version I could find from this show. I heard many Boy tour recordings trough the years and this might be the best audience recording I have.

I am positive that this is the ENTIRE concert.

I was NOT present at this show, although I had been to the
Decade many, many times before and after this concert.
I was given this tape by a long-time Pittsburgh
resident/friend/tape trader about 19 years ago. He told me
that it was a 2nd gen tape and I have no reason to doubt that
statement. That's about all that I know. Here is a brief
synopsis of the recording, good points and bad...

Good points:

1) This should be a COMPLETE recording of the show.

2) There is almost no distortion or hiss in this recording.

3) There's not much talking at all around the taper.
There's no whistling or shrieking. There ARE comments
shouted out from the crowd but only after each musical
selection is finished.

4) All instruments and vocals are clearly heard. Bono
is very easily understood. Some woman is shooting Bono
with a squirt gun during the show.

Bad points:

1) There are speed problems in tracks 7 and 8. They're
not bad and are not a warble or a speed-up/slow down situation.
They speed up & then seem to return slowly to normal speed. I
have no explanation for this. If you download this show and
have the technology, feel free to fix these problems and reseed
the show with the speed problems fixed. I wish you luck.

2) It's not a bad point but I didn't quite know where to track
the start of the song The Electric Company, so I just left The
Cry and The Electric Company songs combined as one track. There
was a tape flip at ~ 4:03 of Track 8 and I fused the 2 pieces
of music together there. I hope that's OK with any purists
out there.

3) The drums and cymbals sound a little distorted to me when I
listen to this on headphones, but they don't sound that bad.
Remember that this recording is over 26 years old and the recording
technology back then wasn't what it is today...

Well, that's about all that I can think of to say, so let's wrap this
up. Finally, no buy, no sell, no mp3. Please seed this as long as you can.
Please trade this freely as it is probably rare. I believe this to be
the first time that U2 ever played in Pittsburgh, PA. This is a recording
of a new band playing in a small, intimate club some time before they
became rock superstars. U2 was touring in support of their album "Boy",
which I believe was their first album. Correct me if I'm wrong. The
Decade hosted some acts that went on to become very famous ; examples
include Springsteen, The Police, The Ramones, U2, The Pretenders, Albert
Collins as well as others. This show will be a welcome addition to any
U2 fan's collection. I will post a sample to help some of you decide
whether or not to get it, but trust me, it's a really good show. That's
about as accurate an assessment of the show as I can give. The setlist
should be 100% correct. If it's not, let me know. The 2 tracks listed as
applause are just that ; no music is present in them. You can delete them
& everything will sound great. So, as Mr. Natural is so fond of saying,
have fun, don't freak out and enjoy the concert !

The transfers are available as 16bit/44.1KHz flac files suitable for CD burning, and also as 24bit/96KHz flac files for those who prefer the higher resolution.
