Audience recording
46 min + 43 min
very good sound [B]; background talking d1t5, d1t6, d2t3 (a bittorrent from 04/11 is a close eac match on d1t1 with less digital flaws as indicated; described as "Lineage: Aud > ? >, LosslessBob entry: LB-3375 very good sound [B]; background talking d1t5, d1t6, d2t3, drop/cut between cdrs; discontinuities between tracks >, Fix: WAV > Wave Repair 4.9.3. to fix index gaps and clicks on d1t1 and d2t1 [see attached DFF log] > FLAC" with filenames like "Track 01.flac"; xref-00767)
drop/cut between cdrs; discontinuities between tracks

Coops2009 Notes:
This is a first, to JB goes the honour of being the first person to privately supply me with master recordings of a show he filmed but never circulated. This is what the Masters Series is for, the preservation of audience videos in the best possible quality. This is from the master copy but as the sound was bad it has been once again expertly replaced by my friend Yassou whos detailed analysis follows. Now I have many many episodes of the Masters series waiting for upload, but this deserved to jump the cheque which is why the Serial number is so far ahead of the rest.

Leopardskin Pillbox Hat
Its All Over Now Baby Blue
Things Have Changed
Honest With Me
Hattie Carroll
Summer Days
A Hard Rains A-Gonna Fall
Highway 61 Revisited
Trying To Get To Heaven

Quite a but of explanation needed here
first this is a short but excellent film
I was given a master copy some years ago by a friend, I uploaded that
and it seems I named it Masters Series 042 !!
Sadly I never kept it under that file name and effectively "lost" it which led me
when winding things down recently to realise that I missed 042 out and had also found
another show I had filmed but missed this was upped recently as MS 042
Well I spoke with the owner of this film and was loaned the master
so here it is again now officially in the series,

If you dloaded it years ago as MS042 this will be slightly better quality
sorry about all the confusion but we all make mistakes (me more than some)

COOPS2009 NOTES ON MS-214:
A short part of this video circulated previously, at the time I thought that was all there was, clearly I was wrong both nights in Greece exist on film (athens next) and whilst this is hardly the Daves finest moments its not bad. Curious that the original cassettes don't appear to exist, just the U-Matic master. well here it is.

NOTE FROM DVD AUTHOR:
The audio upgrade source ran faster than the video soundtrack. The video soundtrack may have been a bit off, too, judging by lag in cymbal beats. Reduced speed of upgrade source 0.50%

ADDITIONAL NOTES FOR VIDEO SOURCE:
How much longer can this be running?, you may ask.Well we go to 260 for sure what happens after that is in the hands  again of all who have given and continue to do so generously. Of course we then have the  Elite Series and The Cine  Collection (which project is nearing completion and will be ready to upload after the Master Series ends. There will be many suprises there,)

This is the other chapter in the Daves collection. Up to now with very minor exceptions everything has been taken from the master tapes. But of course Mr D had access to many others also. In his collection there is a large number of U-Matic tapes. If you don't know u-matic is the studio standard video tape used back then by many TV studios. The tapes are huge easily 6-8 times the size and weight of a vhs tape and of course far better resolution / quality.

I have checked thru all of these and many again are much  better quality than circulating copies. It is to this resource we go next.

These will be with original sound though many will feature as sound upgrades eventually with my two mates Yassou and Madhasse helping out

Enjoy

Grateful Dead 1978-05-17 Uptown Theatre - Chicago, IL

GRATEFUL DEAD
Wednesday, May 17, 1978
Uptown Theatre - Chicago, IL

"Mason B. Taylor was a taper from Chicago that recorded concerts by many bands in the Chicagoland area and on Dead tours. He used a Nakamichi 550 with Nakamichi 300 mics with shotgun capsules for most of his earlier recordings. In later years he used Sony D-5 and Sony D-3 cassette recorders with Nakamichi 300 mics.

Mason captured spectacular musical moments and loved to share them with his closest friends. In honor of Mason and all the love he put into his recordings we are now able to share these moments with those who can appreciate them most.

As the shows get uploaded we would love for you to share your stories about the epic times the music evokes so we can all dial back into that moment when the magic was happening.

Thanks to Mason’s family and his Chicago and Cleveland friends for opening up Mason’s Jar…"

Recorded By Mason Taylor on a Nakamichi 550 Cassette Deck,
on chrome tapes, with Nakamichi microphones.

Transferred on Mason's restored Nak500 properly.
