Many of you knew Dave Dingle and know he died earlier this year.  I am pleased to say that his video archive has passed to me with the express plan of preserving things the same way as before. Everything transferred direct from master to PC to you. Pass it on, we lost Dave but the videos we can preserve.  I will be crediting all his stuff as "The Two Daves". Some o Daves films will contravene the rules here, such films are eing posted elsewhere so if a number seems to be missing look at ElectricLadyland,

Remember even if you have some of the Daves films already that at best your copies will be 2 generations poorer than anything in the Masters series, so get em all. These will be with original sound though many will feature as sound upgrades with my two mates Yassou and Madhasse helping out.

The Masters Series was designed to enable us all to get best quality videos freely
Its always been my intention to preseve as many videos digitally as we can, so that
they will be there in the future. We are  all getting older and many of the original tapers
are now past retirement and sadly dwindling in numbers.
Thankfully I am getting some support from the old school and things are still coming
through if in spurts and starts. hence this one, which deserves further explanation.
This is a true find in many ways, oh sure you've seen it before, but VERY few people have ever seen it in this quality. Miss it at your peril.  When this first appeared transferring videos from US to UK format was big thing and very expensive. A transfer group of  people set up a group films were  obtained on Umatic tape the pro system at the time, then transferred, then a copy made to VHS pal which was then duplicated for others. We were all very pleased usually with what we got. But it was  usually 2-3 generations removed from the master. Well here is a direct from umatic copy...I promise you its well worth the effort.

Get it,

Grateful Dead 1980-04-28 Boutwell Auditorium Birmingham, Alabama

Grateful Dead
April 28, 1980
Birmingham, Alabama
Boutwell Auditorium

"Mason B. Taylor was a taper from Chicago that recorded concerts by many bands in the Chicagoland area and on Dead tours. He used a Nakamichi 550 with Nakamichi 300 mics with shotgun capsules for most of his earlier recordings. In later years he used Sony D-5 and Sony D-3 cassette recorders with Nakamichi 300 mics.

Mason captured spectacular musical moments and loved to share them with his closest friends. In honor of Mason and all the love he put into his recordings we are now able to share these moments with those who can appreciate them most.

As the shows get uploaded we would love for you to share your stories about the epic times the music evokes so we can all dial back into that moment when the magic was happening.

Thanks to Mason’s family and his Chicago and Cleveland friends for opening up Mason’s Jar…"

Recorded By Mason Taylor on a Nakamichi 550 Cassette Deck,

Fix notes:

Lightweight hiss removal using iZotope RX2 denoiser.

Speed adjustment needed, running too fast.  Sides 1 & 3 adjusted with factor of 97.5%, but side 2 of tape running amazingly fast: factor of 90%.  After adjustments, still some indications that speed may be a little slippy.
At 4:04 in Baby Can Dance there's a sudden deceleration (and more so four seconds later).  Speed corrected whole section with factor of 106%, but could only do at single setting, as no accelerate/decelerate tool available.

Tape flip between Go Now and Betty Wrong - seamless.
Tape flip between Baby Can Dance and You Belong In Rock And Roll - seamless.
Tape flip between Baby Universal and Heaven's In Here - seamless.

Small gaps removed in encore breaks at ends of Heaven's In Here and You Can't Talk - crowd noise only.

Three short cut-outs during The Jean Genie at 6:24, 6:27 and 7:11 (crowd noise).  All removed with negligible impact.
Gap between Breaking Glass and Fame.  Removed, but start of Fame is clipped.  Coincides with tape flip.

Notes

Miles too fast.  Speed correction with factor of 92%

Cut in crowd noise between Golden Years and Fashion.  Tidied up.
Gap removed between Red Sails and Breaking Glass (probably former tape flip).  Crowd noise only.
Volume boost, Breaking Glass - China Girl: 25% to bring in line.
Couple of minor sound fluctuations in crowd noise between Cat People and China Girl - removed.
Gap in tape @ 4:07 in China Girl (perhaps an old tape flip).  Removed with fade-out/in, but some music missing.

Tape flip between China Girl and Scary Monsters - crowd noise.
Small gap in crowd noise on fade of White Light/White Heat removed.

After Cracked Actor, appears that a radio advert or something similar played over the PA.  Left alone.
Gap removed @ 4:41 in Fame.  Minor loss of music.

Have seen listing indicating that TVC15 was between Fame and Star, but absolutely no evidence here.

Big thanks to mbodayle for taping at the Ryman tips.  This is not meant to be a competition with his recording, but I was getting mine ready as his showed up.  There are time when the highs might dip a bit on this recording, that was due to me sitting down a couple of times to avoid being in the line of fire of the dude next to me taking pictures.  I mean c’mon, if you are going to bend the rules, at least be subtle. The security was very vigilant in stopping people shooting pictures.  So much so that law enforcement got into the act.  I was nervous that if he got a flashlight shone on him, my stealth rig would be seen.  That proved not to be the case, as during the show the police had me poke him so they could tell him not to take pictures.  Still the paranoia never left.  Very nice show, the sound improves as the show progresses, which makes me think the sound guy was doing some tweaking, as I didn’t move.  I was about eight rows back a bit to the left of center stage.  I seem to get a bit of separation on the recording.  The tracks are done on the fly so they are not perfect.  Enjoy.

This is a good sounding audience recording of a great show - this was Bruce's 26th Birthday obviously, and he's in great spirit, and he shows it.I got this in a CDR trade, with a bit of a messed up setlist, E Street Shuffle had the starting 16 minutes, then a break of about a minute and then the beginning up till the end again, so I edited it out to make it spliceable comfortly to 2 CDs. There was no music lost, just in case you'd ask.

so lineage should read something like this:
CDR > EACsecure > WAV > EAC Wave editor > flac > Make Torrent 2

Enjoy the show!

Bob Dylan 1961-00-00 Minnesota Tapes

Bob Dylan

It's possible I have a bootleg of a bootleg?

Review:
This triple-CD bootleg should rate even higher than it does, and would but for the relatively
low quality of the source tapes. There may be no way around it -- these were crude acoustic
recordings to begin with (and some of the listed dates and supposed location may be suspect),
and it might be impossible to clean them up. On the other hand, this is Bob Dylan at his Woody
Guthrie-est, performing a couple of dozen songs by the folk legend including one of the greatest
performances of his career, his version of Guthrie's "Pastures of Plenty," a dark, brooding, sad
rendition that plumbs depths that Guthrie himself likely felt but never reached. The problem is,
there's a low-frequency hum on it, all manner of other shortcomings (including some distortion on
the louder moments) on the master for the CD (and possibly in the original tape) as well. There's
a lot of other repertory here, including traditional numbers like "Gospel Plough," "Long John,"
"Pretty Polly," and pieces written by Rev. Gary Davis ("It's Hard to Be Blind") and even Lord
Buckley ("Blackcross"). Ideally, a legitimate release of this material, from a cleaner master,
would slot right in alongside Dylan's underrated first album, and probably supplant it.

My comment:
I know at some point you can hear Pete Seeger ask Dylan something about how he writes songs.

Eric Clapton 2001-02-03 Royal Albert Hall London, England

Eric Clapton
Royal Albert Hall
London, England
February 3, 2001
"Recorder 1" (Mitsui Gold)

CD-R2 - 65:13 / 67:10 - Aud 4 (Scale 1-6)

Disc 1:

    Key to the Highway
    Reptile
    Tears in Heaven
    Bell Bottom Blues
    Change the World
    My Father's Eyes
    River of Tears
    Going Down Slow
    She's Gone
    It's Alright
    Finally Got Myself Together

Disc 2:

    Got You On My Mind
I Ain't Gonna Stand For It
Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight
    Travellin' Light
Have You Ever Loved a Woman
    Badge
    Wonderful Tonight
    Layla
    Sunshine of Your Love
    Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Geetarz Comments:

Different source than "RAH First Night", "Royal Reptile Returns", "Somewhere Over London", or "Vagabond" releases. Analog source leaves some hiss but also is rich and warm, lacking the clarity and depth of the Mid Valley release but at times more intimate sounding. Begins right when EC strums his guitar at the beginning of Key to the Highway, and at 0:22 in track 1 the taper changes position slightly. Vocals have lots of reverb but instruments come through closer and clear. Cuts off sharply at the end of track 4, begins track 5 with a fade into 'Change the World'.

Lineage:

Unknown > Mitsui Gold CD-R > Trade > EAC > FLAC > You !!

There are no fewer than five alternate audience recordings of this performance ... enjoy!

Neil Young & Lost Dogs

Festival Hall, Osaka, Japan
May 02, 1989

* Remastered version *

Agovigli uploaded the "raw-version" of this show and suggested I did this remaster. A little more work was required on this one compared to 1989-04-28 & 1989-04-29: Lots of annoying screams and loud handclaps were removed or muted where possible. Apart from this, the main difference from the "raw-version" is level adjustments and resampling to 44.1kHz redbook standard for CD burning.

Bob Dylan 1974-01-10 Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, Ontario

Bob Dylan & The Band
Maple Leaf Gardens,
Toronto, Ontario
Canada
10 January 1974

Lineage: Master tape > CDR > EAC > Flac [from lk aud set]

LosslessBob entry: LB-2651. looks as if everything around 16k tv band was removed similar to remastered version; this version is an improvement on both previous versions as unprocessed version has the hiss and the previous remastered version sounds unaturally sound processed in comparison; very good sound [B]; (a bittorrent from 07/07 is same wav md5 on d1t1 but has different flac md5s and filenames like bd&band19749110d?t??; described with this LB number and LB info file)

Fix of LB-2651: WAV > Wave Repair 4.9.3 to fix micro gaps at indexes and remove leading/trailing silences. Remaining flaws are mic bumps > FLAC sector align.

notes:
- DAT from the Dutch Masters Archives
- "FK" tape
- Transfer: DAT played on Sony DTC-790 deck -> S/PDIF cable -> Terratec
  Aureon 5.1 soundcard -> Adobe Audition -> WAV -> CDWave -> WAV -> FLAC
- Mastering done in Adobe Audition; pitch raised +0.45 semitone, converted
to 44.1kHz. Some bass was added with BBE Sonic Maximizer. Some loud
  clicks and pops repaired.
- Tape flips are: before Too Far Gone, before Cocaine Eyes (set change),
and just before the band introductions.
- Known issues: There are a number of microphone problems on the original
tape, mostly minor dropouts and the start of each set. Unfortunately, a
few seconds are missing from the beginning of Too Far Gone, and during
the intro there is a 24 second dropout on the right channel as well
(sounds like a disconnected microphone cable).
- But don't let these flaws fool you, this is an awesome show with a very
rare acoustic Ordinary People which lasts over 10 minutes! This is the
last known performance of the song.
- There's also a rare Wrecking Ball, and a Boxcar on this show.

The issue resolves itself near the end of Sugar Mountain and the rest of the

Thanks to Tom at Sugar Mountain

http://www.sugarmtn.org/

and GOTR

I was asked to put it up here, so there's another one from my collection, which I got in a postal trade a couple of years ago.
I don't have any information about the source, sorry. Here it is, as I got it. Besides encoding to flac, no changes on the recording was done by me.

This recording is a bit rough at the end, but as this is not widely circulated, I think it's worth offering here.
Please notice, that in Rockin' In The Free World, On Broadway and Tonight's The Night there are several small distortions. Might be the result of some mic fixing problems, but I really don't know.
Anyway, nothing serious, quite listenable though...and you have the chance to listen to Wrecking Ball, which wasn't played very often.
This was a great show of a phantastic tour.

GOTR says about the venue "East End Markets", Sugar Mountain mentions "Apollo Stadium". Maybe someone can enlighten me, if it's the same?

Your comments, on the quality, as well, are very welcome.
Now it's your turn!

Enjoy! Please do not sell or encode to mp3. Never ever!!!
Share it with your friends.
